Happy New Year everyone. 2017 is over and done with and we're taking the first steps into all that 2018 has to offer.
Last year I took part in a number of Age of Sigmar tournaments, including the South Coast GT, Bristol Smash and Blackout, having great fun at all of them.
So what events will I be going to this year, and which ones to I hope I can get to?
I've signed up for two events so far for 2018 , the first being Heat Three of the Warhammer 40,000 Grand Tournament, which is being held at Warhammer World in February.
I've never done a 40k tournament, so this should be interesting. I have played in a 40k campaign weekend at Warhammer World many years ago but this was rubbish due to appalling organisation.
Having watched some of the coverage from the other two heats, it looks like there could be some stiff competition for my Tyranids, but as long as I have a fun weekend, and win at least 1 game I'll be happy. Much like when I started playing in Age of Sigmar tournaments, I'm sure I'll learn a lot from my experiences.
The second event I have signed up for is Heat two of the Age of Sigmar Grand Tournament, again being held at Warhammer World.
After almost two years of playing independent AoS events, this will be my first attempt at an official one. At the moment I am planning on taking my Slaanesh, but with a good four months to go before the event, that may change, especially with all the nice new Nurgle stuff coming out soon.
I'd like to think that I could get at least three wins at this event, but it really depends on the field and who I end up playing against, a minimum of two victories would be my target.
With both the Warhammer 40k and Age of Sigmar Tournaments, there is a chance of qualifying for the finals which will be held later on in the year. I'd be disappointed if I didn't qualify in the Age of Sigmar event, but as for 40k , who knows! Look out for event coverage on the blog later in the year.
So what about the rest of the year? Well, as I'm going to the AoS GT in April, I wont be going to the South Coast GT this year, but hopefully should be able to get along to Warhammer Fest, which happens to be on the same weekend as the SCGT. It was great fun last year, and fingers crossed we can expect the same this year.
I've had my eye on the Realms at War events over the last two years, and they have both looked great fun to play in. For those that don't know, these are narrative events run by the NEOs. This seems a perfect place to take my Fimir, which I'm hoping to have done sometime this year. We'll have to see what date this is and how it conflicts with anything else I have going on.
An event I shouldn't have too much problem going to is Bristol Smash. Last year I managed to get all the way to table three before crashing and burning on day two. Probably being held sometime in June, I hope to be able to make it to this great local event and put in a good showing again.
If there are any good 40k tournaments in Bristol too this year, I may make it along to them too, but it all depends on the dates, and any clashes with other events.
Well that's the events I have on the horizon for 2018 so far, I'm sure there will be more, hopefully there will be a good event hosted by Chris Tomlin of Black Sun fame, and there is always Age of Santa which I had to miss this year.
